Our vineyard

This name origin is understandable by the presence of noble families, which formerly lived in seven castles of the valley. Our vineyard extends on a little more than 13 hectares, distributed in some 50 plots of land which extend in the middle and over hillsides adjoining the municipality of Soultzmatt. The main advantage of this division of the vineyard, results from the big soils diversity surrounding the village. Indeed, all the Alsatian grape varieties are cultivated on various types of grounds. We find mainly argilo-calcareous grounds on hard limestones, sandstones and conglomerate.
So, every land plot, due to its geology and its exposure will allow the expression of its soil and will reveal the single grape variety aromas. We also have the opportunity to possess approximately two hectares of vineyards on the sunny slopes “Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé”. It majestic hillside in the rough and steep, facing south and southeast slopes, dominate the picturesque valley, called "Vallis Praenobilis", the highly noble valley in the old texts.
This vineyard classified in "Grand Cru” is the highest Alsace vineyard (420 m). The shelly-limestone of the Zinnkoepflé allied to the most reduced rainfall (270 mm during vegetative period) due to the protection of the “Petit Ballon” and the “Grand Ballon” of Alsace, favors the vines culture and stays the favourite terroir for Late Harvests and Selections of Noble Grape Berries.
This exceptional microclimate allows even, on the calcareous summit, a Mediterranean and Caspian fauna and flora development. This remarkable terroir engenders wines with nice bouquet, spicy, rich and quite particularly for the Gewurtzraminer. Paradoxically, the Riesling and the Pinot Gris are born with delicacy and discreet harmony. Pleasant in their youth, the Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé wines are a surprise by their extraordinary maturation capacity and are thus naturally appointed to become great wines for laying down.
